Summer 2017

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to try just one more time."

- Thomas Edison, Inventor/businessman

The Summer in Brant County means vibrant downtowns, picturesque countryside, and glistening rivers calling to the many tourists who frequent our community at this time of year. With tourism growing each and every year, we are excited for the potential growth this may mean for some of our Members as well. For other Members, Summer may be a slower time as people vacation, spend more time outdoors, or shorten their own business hours for the season, but regardless of where your business falls on the spectrum, our Chamber continues to work hard through the summer months to ensure that we can provide support and strength for your business. Though we will not be hosting a Board Meeting or Business After 5 event in July, we will be diligently working to prepare for our 12th Annual Golf Tournament in August! This amazing golfing and networking event is one of the main sources of revenue for our Chamber and we appreciate everyone's participation. We can't wait to see you there!

- Joanne Forrest, President

Working Hard for You

What we have been up to...

In May, our President Joanne Forrest and Vice-President Anne Sheppard travelled to Sarnia to be a part of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce AGM. The AGM slogan was 'Driving Prosperity in Ontario' and was a wonderful networking and educational event for our Chamber.  We are excited to incorporate new ideas and concepts discussed at the AGM to our Chamber in coming months.
After learning more about advocacy as it pertains to Chambers like ours, and with the continued growth and commitment of our Advocacy Committee, we have now added a new section to our website titled 'In the News'. Here, our Members can stay up-to-date on communcations and important information from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Our Marketing & Membership Committee has been hard at work re-imagining our Chamber's brand for 2018. With this change will come an updated website, advertising and social media plans, and a new logo. In the meantime, watch out for exciting changes to our existing website to be completed in the summer of 2017! We hope that these changes will make our website easier to navigate and will also allow us to better showcase our what our Members have to offer.
The first weekend in June is always the Springtime in Paris festival! The Paris & District Chamber of Commerce was in attendance not only to support our current Members who were showcased at this event, but also working to meet new business owners and grow our Membership. We met some amazing people and hope to add them to our growing list of Members in the near future!

Business After 5

Each and every month a Chamber Member hosts a ‘Business After 5’ meeting at their business location.  Our routine Business After 5 meetings serve as amazing networking opportunities for our Members. The event lasts for 1.5 hours and typically has a very loose agenda, thereby allowing tonnes of time for chatting and exploring the venue. The host of each meeting is welcome to speak to the crowd, offer a tour of the facilities, give a sneak peek into the inner workings of the business, or use the time in whatever way best suits them.

Come on out and make some connections!

For each Business After Hours event your company attends, you will be entered into our bi-annual membership giveaway draw! Not a Member?  At our AGM, we will be drawing for a non-Member as well and they will enjoy their first year of Membership free! So bring a guest and come on out! Attendance is free.

Meet your fellow Chamber members and help grow your business in a casual, social atmosphere. If you have any questions about these events, please contact Hayley Williams at 226.208.1159 or email info@pariscoc.ca We encourage you to come out to our next Business to Business After Five event and take advantage of this valuable membership benefit. Reminders will be sent out to members via email or you can check our website at www.pariscoc.ca for event details.

If you are interested in hosting a Business After 5 event, please contact Hayley at info@pariscoc.ca.
